While Americans have some difficulty accessing the most popular traditional sportsbooks, this is not the case with Fan Duel. Because it is a fantasy sports site and not a bookmaking operation, it is not affected by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and is therefore completely legal for people in the United States to play at. Fan Duel is in fact headquartered in New York, NY, so there will no shady, offshore dealings when you decide to play there. The only other country from which Fan Duel accepts customers is Canada.
Nevertheless, there are some states with stringent legislation preventing their residents from taking part in Fan Duel’s fun contests: Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Washington.
Fan Duel has been serving clients since 2009. This may not seem like a terribly long time, but in the world of online gaming, a clean record of payouts stretching for five consecutive years isn’t something to sneeze at. The company boasts more than a million real-money players.
Mobile users of Fan Duel can download their choice of an Android app, an iPhone app and an iPad app. In addition, there’s a mobile version of most pages at the site. Even for content that hasn’t yet been optimized for mobile, you’ll at least get access to the normal desktop version if you try to access it from your mobile device. The site will automatically detect what type of device you’re using and serve you the appropriate pages, but you can manually choose to view a different version if you desire.
Welcome Bonus Offer
By using our links when creating your new account, you can qualify for a 100% up to $200 bonus at Fan Duel. Fund your account with $200 or more to maximize this opportunity! Check out some of the advantages and drawbacks of this bonus below:
Bonus Terms & Clearing Info
As you enter contests at Fan Duel, money will move from your pending bonus account to your real money account at a rate of 4% of the entry fees that you pay. Once this happens, the funds are yours to do with as you please; keep playing with them or make a withdrawal. There’s no expiration date attached to the welcome bonus by Fan Duel, so take as long as you wish to play it through.
After completing the playthrough, bonus funds can be withdrawn as part of your normal real-money balance.
Clear your bonus by playing from your desktop, laptop, smartphone or tablet!
Make your deposit for as little as $10 to qualify for the bonus.
As you enter contests, your bonus funds will slowly be released to your balance.
First deposit bonuses at Fan Duel NEVER expire.
If you win more than $600, including bonuses, in a year, FanDuel will file a 1099-MISC form with the IRS on your behalf.
Deposit $200 to get the maximum $200 bonus under the terms of the 100% bonus match. The bonus money isn’t added to your balance upfront. Instead it sits in your pending bonus account and will be moved over to your normal balance slowly as you enter games at Fan Duel. For every contest that you participate in, 4% of the entry fee will be the amount of bonus that you clear.
For example, if you enter a $25 contest, you’ll thereby clear $1 of the bonus, which will move over to your main funds balance. If you’ve received the maximum $200 bonus, then you’ll have to enter contests with entry fees totaling $5,000 before the entire bonus is yours.
You don’t have to clear the whole bonus if you don’t want to. With the incremental bonus system, you can withdraw any bonuses payouts that you have already received even if there remain bonus funds yet pending. However, you do have to roll over your deposit at least once before requesting a withdrawal or else your withdrawal might be refused and your account closed.

You can use PayPal and credit cards to deposit at Fan Duel. This should come as a welcome relief to US players who are tired of seeking out obscure or costly means to deposit at their favorite gambling sites. It’s possible that you’ll be charged an international transfer fee when making your deposit, but you need merely email support within 60 days, and they’ll credit you back the fees.
When it’s time to withdraw your winnings, you have two choices: PayPal or Check. PayPal withdrawal requests are processed within 48 hours while checks take about two business weeks. In some cases, Fan Duel will ask you for identity documentation before completing your payout.
If you’re having trouble making a deposit, you can access the support ticket system at Fan Duel to get some help in this area.
Available Deposit and Withdrawal Methods at Fan Duel
To begin playing at Fan Duel, simply go to the website and click on the green “JOIN NOW” button. You’ll have to fill out a very simple form to begin playing. Later on, you might have to enter more information when it’s time to withdraw your winnings, which will hopefully be significant.
Unlike traditional sportsbooks, you’re not betting on the outcome of a game or the scoring over/under. Instead, you’ll be drafting a team of players, which will compete against the teams drafted by the other people participating in the contest. At the end of the day, the stats of all your players will be added up and a certain number of points awarded for their performance according to the scoring rules, which are freely available on Fan Duel’s website. For instance, a football player will score 0.5 points for an interception and will lose 2 points for every fumble lost while a baseball player will get 4 points per home run and 2 points for every base he steals. The points accumulated by each team will be totaled up, and the winner(s) will receive the appropriate portions of the prize pool.
When you log in and choose what sport you’re interested in and the size of the competition you wish to enter, you’ll see a display, similar to the image on the left, showing you the available contests. You can sort them by size (i.e., number of possible participants), entry fee or start time. Then when you click “Enter,” you’ll be brought into the interface for drafting your players and entering the contest.
While viewing the lobby, you can access information about your account by selecting the icon at the top-right of the screen. The top-left icon allows you to switch between the lobby, upcoming contests that you’ve entered, contests that are currently live and a history of contests you’ve entered in the past.
The mobile interface contains everything you really need to successfully navigate to a league you’re interested in, draft your lineup and enter the event. However, some of the screens are a bit cluttered and may require a considerably amount of scrolling. These problems are almost completely absent from the desktop version of the software, so hardcore sports enthusiasts may be best served visiting Fan Duel from their main computers rather than their smartphones.
How to Enter a League
Because FanDuel is somewhat different from normal sports betting sites, the procedure you’ll use is also correspondingly different. Upon logging in, you’ll have to choose the sport you’re interested in and the type of contest you wish to participate in. There are head-to-head competitions, leagues of varying sizes, 50/50 leagues wherein half the entrants receive an identical prize while the other half walk away empty-handed, and tournaments of more than 20 players. The sports that are available (depending on the season) include:
- College Basketball
- College Football
After you select the type of event you’re interested in, you’ll see a lobby containing all contests of that type. You can sort by entry fee and other criteria. To select the one that you want to participate in, choose “Enter” next to its entry in the lobby.
Now you’ll see your lineup, currently empty, along with some information about the contest. The salary cap will tell you the total salary under which your final lineup must come in. Each available player has a salary figure associated with him, with star players commanding a larger amount. The salary cap system means that you can’t just stack your team with all-stars; you’ll have to carefully consider price/performance when making your drafts.
Select the empty lineup spots to add a payer to your team. You’ll be presented with a list of each available player at that position along with his salary. Once you find someone you like, choose the green plus sign next to his name to draft him for your team. If you’d like to see more info on a player before making your decision, click on his name, and you’ll get a rundown of his current season stats, the latest news about the player and an analysis of his prospects.
As you select more players, the avg/player stat will update to show you how much money you have remaining per empty slot in your roster. This is pretty useful as it will allow you to see where you stand with respect to the salary cap with every selection you make. Choose the red minus sign logo to remove a player.
When you like the looks of your current team, scroll down to the bottom and click the green “Enter” button. Now your entry will be finalized. It will be listed in your “Upcoming” contests. When play starts for the day, you’ll be able to check out how you’re doing in the “Live” section of Fan Duel. Score more cumulative points than the other players to earn one of the top prizes!
Create a Contest
If none of Fan Duel’s standard offerings tickles your fancy, don’t despair. You can create your own contest right from the lobby. Choose the sport, date, entry fee and all other parameters to make the contest that YOU want to compete in. You can allow anyone to enter, or you can restrict entry to just your friends.
Fan Duel runs certain large events with guaranteed prize pools. If the field turns out to be much smaller than expected, the site may end up paying out more money in prizes than it collects in entry fees! You should also be on the lookout for special Happy Hour events that feature better or larger prizes than usual. There’s at least one of them running every day!
As you play at Fan Duel, you’ll begin to accumulate FanDuel Points (FDPs). You can use these points to enter any paid contests instead of using your cash balance. Every month, there will be freerolls for players who have managed to earn the following number of points:
$2,000 freeroll for 1,000 monthly FDPs
$3,500 freeroll for 5,000 monthly FDPs
$6,500 freeroll for 15,000 monthly FDPs
$13,000 freeroll for 50,000 monthly FDPs
